The theme of the conference was “Museums fighting for human rights” and it was a really inspiring and thought provoking conference. It was just what I need this time last year, battling to get into the field, trying to get published and facing lots of apathy in Austria about the museum and social agency in this way. It really recharged my batteries. It’s just a shame that they decided to charge for the second conference which immediately counts a lot of young, enthusiastic people out.
The page has also been added to the free online museum resources tab to the left of the page. Enjoy!

This is a great little video that synthesises how the Anne Frank in Amsterdam looks now and how it looked when Anne, her Family and others were living there during the war and prior to their capture and most of their deaths.
It’s a shame it doesn’t also show the museum that comes after the tour through the house itself as it is a great museum focused on anti-rascism and prejudice awareness. Including a small cinema where scenarios and situations are played out (segregation, race riots etc) and the audience is asked to press a button by their seat to vote on how they view it. I think this would be a really interesting exercise if there wa some way to guage how people felt about such issues before and after their visits too.
The wonderful Richard Sandell looks at how the Anne Frank House deals with these ideas in Sandell, Richard. Museums, Predjudice and the Reframing of Difference. Routledge, 2006.
The Anne Frank Haus also has a youtube channel with film footage and interviews with people who knew and helped the Frank family and other related content.
